[Csnd] [Music] Wok (and full source code)

Hey hey,
ahjead of ICSC I would like to publish a piece of music, entirely made with Csound:

The complete source code with required external material is now part of my general purpose Csound github project Overeffected:

Technical notes: my self-set requirement was to use only Csound and a text editor. I cheated with a few externally imported wavetables and the few "vocals". This piece is powered by the development version of the Ondes, a library of UDOs centred around wavetable synthesis, which Scott a.k.a ST Music and I are developing together. This includes everything from algorithmic wavetable generators, morphing capabilities, oscillators, filters, effects, limited sequencing and drum voices. The latter just for your - or anyone's - convenience.

I wrote sequences by hand as text files, designed the sounds through two fixed architectures like synth voices with loadable patches and mixed and mastered everything purely in Csound.

The words you hear are spoken in a Conlang constructed language that I am working on. If I told you what it means now, I'd spoil the fun.

A youtube version may come later, when I have more time and motivation to fight the YT website.

Enjoy and looking forward to seeing you at the conference,

Jeanette

Nice work Jeanette. A real showcase for Csound - first class.

(Of course, I liked the first minute best - and especially the first 15 seconds!)

Hello Art,
thanks! Yes, I thought you might enjoy that bit most! Funny thing is: naturally that was the easiest part, weird scale aside.

Best wishes,

Jeanette

Impressive and inspiring work,

Thanks for sharing. I’m always excited to hear music realised entirely in Csound and even more so when it involves pop and dance music adjacent composition and sound design ideas. I’m really looking forward to studying the code for this and the rest of your Overeffected project.

Thanks,
Adam

Dear Jeanette,

WOW. Love it. And loving so much about it.

The opening is cool if you like that sort of “C-soundy stuff.” (just kidding, of course). The vocal processing is cool. The groove is fun. The melody is catchy. The beat and drums are super… But then, the bridge/drop… WOW. Then the scream hits, even darker and more intense (get outta here), with the groove returning, explosions, and additional vocal processing. WOW.

Thanks for making it. Thanks for sharing.

With your permission, I might try to drop a few of your instruments into my CsoundMeta demo/workshop here on Wednesday afternoon in Trapani. This year, from the Browser, you can upload “any” csd file (even those with samples), and it turns into an ORB in the MetaVerse!

I will let you know.

Jumping back in for another listen before crashing; it’s a little after midnight here, and I have been debugging, rehearsing, and preparing all day and night for the past two days here in my hotel room, with more rehearsals tomorrow.

Take care.

Hello Adam and Richard,
thank you both very much for your kind words.

Richard: of course you may use my instruments in your project. I'm so looking forward to finally meeting you in person and hopefully experience Csound in the metaverse. I'm really curious if I get something out of the glasses.

Till Tuesday then and sleep well,

Jeanette
