Hey hey,
the virtual ensemble is back. This time with Wildfire:
I could say: this is an exploration of signature changes and polymetric composition using only the whole tone and whole-step-half-step scale. Or I could be truthful and admit that I used these elements, but simply because I didn't have the best of days. Still, this piece features all of the above. Stylistically it's perhaps a mix of free jazz, fusion and - with a different arrangement - metal.
I used a MIDI sequencer with live Csound to record and compose the piece and then rendered the instruments to separate audio files using an exported MIDI file to drive Csound in offline mode. These files then go into a binaural spatialisation.
There is more...
The latest feature to give the ensemble more life is incidental sounds. These are generated from recordings I made of rustling clothes. This incidental soundtrack is again generated with Csound in a semi-random fashion. It includes movements of the players and rare creeks in the walls and ceiling. Since this piece is best listened to with headphones, because of the binaural thing, you might notice the artefacts here and there. A good pair of speakers will also do. the players are stationary.
I hope that you enjoy it!
Best wishes,
Jeanette
