Ugh, nevermind. I hadn't looked close enough to realize the way you were implementing this. Clearly in this situation using i rate isn't an option, sorry. I'm not sure there's any way to achieve what you want with k rate pitch changes.
It your end goal was better understood there might be other option; I'll be curious to hear some responses as I've had similar issues in the past.
