Orchestron 2.0.2 released

Version 2.0.2 of the visual csound platform Orchestron has been released, with lots of new functionality:

  • Per-performance instrument controls let you adjust envelopes, distortion, and other parameters independently for each rack instance, with settings preserved in saves and exports.

  • Instrument categories and collapsible panels make browsing sounds and organizing your workspace easier.

  • Expanded instrument library, including Goa/Psytrance sounds, plus updated demo performances (see examples/ folder in the release)

  • Support for switch and if opcodes to enable instruments with different audio synthesis paths depending on an input value like for example the midi notenum (useful for drumsets)

  • New device, the Arpeggiator

  • Always on (continuous) instruments for effects and audio processing (reverbs, compressors, EQs, flangers etc)

  • Mixer with flexible audio routing including effect sends

  • More informative Csound exports, with performance descriptions, instrument details, and routing comments.

  • Improved Docker builds, automated image publishing, dependency updates, and bug fixes.

Songs created in Orchestron can be exported to standard csound CSD’s, for an example, try the attached demo song “Hardtrance_Demo”:

Hardtrance_Demo.csd.zip (66.5 KB)

Orchestron 2.0.2 is available on github: GitHub - thomassresearch/orchestron: Orchestron is a visual instrument workshop built on the power of Csound — not a preset browser, not a plugin rack, not a timeline with tracks stacked like office paperwork. You design sound from signal flow upward. Oscillators, envelopes, filters, physical models, control signals — connect them, and the instrument comes alive while you hear it. · GitHub

The simplest way to run it on your machine (Windows, Linux and MacOS):

  • Install Docker Desktop
  • Choose a folder where you want to persist your Orchestron instruments and tracks, for example orchestron_data
  • Open a command terminal (“cmd.exe” on Windows, Unix Shell on Linux) and change to the parent of that directory (or open the command shell directly from there)
  • Type:
    docker run -d \
    --name orchestron \
    --restart unless-stopped \
    -p 8000:8000 \
    -e VISUALCSOUND_DEFAULT_RTMIDI_MODULE=null \
    -v orchestron_data:/app/backend/data \
    ghcr.io/thomassresearch/orchestron:latest

Then you can point your browser to http://localhost:8000/client/

Have fun!
